I was like you Kaye, when it came to the three boomer groups-I didn't realize that such a distinction existed. I suppose that each of us longs in a certain way, to be distinct from the rest, so I suppose that dividing us boomers into three groups makes sense. I'm also very intrigued to see what our senior years will look like-especially as 10,000 of us boomers are turning 65 years old each day. As you mention, technology will indeed play a big factor in our senior years and it's exciting to think that our generation will be the first to be so acutely affected by such technology.

BTW, for all you readers out there, check out Kaye's blog at http://thesandwichgenerationissues.blogspot.com and follow her on Twitter @SandwichINK (I do!). She's a great advocate for elder care issues. Thanks Kaye for your comments and for your service to seniors!

Very interesting article! I've always considered myself one of the babies of the baby boomers - not realizing they've divided us into 3 groups. I was blessed with a very tech-loving husband who jumped on the computer bandwagon when it started and then on the Mac bandwagon - that's when I really got excited, because it made sense and was easy on the Mac. I now am just as comfortable on Mac as PC, as are most of my friends, and am excited to see what OUR senior years look like, compared to those of our senior parents, many of whom never got comfortable with computers. Should definitely be interesting. Thanks again for a very intriguing article. See you on Twitter.

Thanks for your comment, Dr. Pullen. Your site, DrPullen.com, contains a lot of good advice for patients and physicians.

Your reposting of Dr. Lin's blog on errors related to use of EHR systems points out how careful physicians and other users of such systems must be. We tend to focus on the advantages of EHR systems, without recognizing there are potential pitfalls as well. There are still no magic bullets!

Amen to this, Dr. Dymkova-Fuchs! The online social media is changing the way we do business, our persona, relationships, networking, and above all word of mouth testimonials/ratings... which is the best of all. When visiting a new restaurant or business, I first check them out online.. to see what others are saying. I especially use it for my medical concerns.

Beware.. if you are a business owner (large or small), having an online presence is imperative. If you want to carve out your brand, and not fall prey to the consumer element, get on board and stop burying your head. It's here, whether you like it or not!

Thank you,
Carol

Carol-thank you for your supportive comments. Writing this blog is a bit of therapy for me and helps me to accept my friend's choice. You are so correct that we all will walk this path eventually and I am so glad that we have an environment that allows us to choose our path. I think of my friend daily and celebrate the wonderful memories we have together. At the end of the day, I applaud her courage and her choice-in doing so, she has embraced life much more deeply than many others in her position.

Thank you, Craig, lovely story. I vote for your friend's choice and that's the beauty of living where we live or having the personal freedom that we do.. to choose. I know it is extremely difficult to let go of dear friends and loved ones.. I too want to hold on to them - but in the end - we all walk that path.

Thank you,
Carol Marak

Tricia, thank you for your note and for passing along the blog via Twitter and Facebook. For me, the blog has been a catharsis of sorts and has allowed me to express my feelings. As you know, it's one thing to talk about death and dying as a healthcare professional and a completely other experience when you experience it personally.

Thanks once again for your support and keep up the great work you and your organization are doing on behalf of patients and families everywhere!
